Who's behind Benno
Benno is built and operated by Benno UG (haftungsbeschränkt), based in Düsseldorf, Germany. We do one thing and do it properly: invoices for tradespeople that start as a WhatsApp voice message and come back as a finished PDF, compliant with the German GoBD and ZUGFeRD e-invoicing standards. No download, no login, no training.
The idea came from a simple observation: while large companies have long put AI to work, hundreds of thousands of tradespeople and self-employed workers still write their invoices in Excel late at night. Error-prone, time-consuming, and soon no longer legally compliant. Conventional invoicing software demands web dashboards, accounts and onboarding, exactly what there is no time for in the daily routine of a tradesperson. We take the opposite route and meet tradespeople where they already are every day: on WhatsApp.
Benno was founded and is run by Lars Müller, a software developer focused on artificial intelligence. Lars has been building AI applications at a German university hospital for years, an environment where data protection and reliability are non-negotiable. We hold Benno to the same standard: AI and voice processing run entirely within the EU, and voice messages are never stored permanently.
Benno is subscription software (SaaS): free to start with 3 invoices a month, unlimited from €19.90 per month plus VAT, and €39 for teams plus VAT. Both are introductory prices, kept for every business that subscribes to a paid plan by 31.12.2026; after that €39 per month for Meister and €69 for teams, plus VAT. No cut of your invoice amounts and no hidden fees. We are funded solely by these recurring subscriptions.

Your data stays yours
What happens to your invoices if you ever stop using Benno? Nothing. Every invoice sits as a PDF in your WhatsApp, with the ZUGFeRD XML embedded. In the account portal you can download all invoices plus the DATEV export for your accountant as a ZIP at any time, with one click. The subscription can be cancelled at any time. Your bookkeeping does not depend on us.
